No one comes close to Dean’s record for supporting renters. Dean spent years as a tenants rights attorney working in the Tenderloin before becoming Supervisor. Not only is he one of the reasons we have rent control in California, but he started our only statewide renter’s network: Tenants Together. 

• Created SF’s right to counsel that provides a free attorney to any renter facing eviction 

• Wrote over a dozen laws protecting tenants from eviction during the pandemic

• Won over $60 million in Emergency Rental Assistance Program funds that stopped the displacement of over 10,000 households 

• Delivered rent control for tenants at Midtown Park Apartments and D5 subsidized housing complexes

• Secured $20 million for public housing repairs and $10 million to fix SRO elevators
