An everyday Muni rider, Dean believes public transit is essential for a sustainable and equitable city. He’s been the leading voice on the Board of Supervisors for public transit and a green transportation network. Dean also reconvened the dormant interdepartmental Vision Zero Task Force to push for street safety.
Leading Transit-First efforts at the board, including restoration of suspended Muni lines and service, stopping fare hikes, making Free Muni for Youth permanent, and eliminating parking at over 1000 bus stops so Muni stops are accessible
Championed car-free JFK, the Great Walkway, Car-Free Hayes, the Buchanan Mall, the Golden Gate Greenway, Page Slow Street, and Lyon Slow Street
Successfully advocated for $17.6 million in federal funding for safe streets improvements in the Western Addition, including traffic signal upgrades, quick builds, and speed reduction work, and $8 million to improve traffic safety in the Tenderloin
Established parking-protected bike lane on Fell Street along the Panhandle, and secured funding for the same on Oak
Won a Reconnecting Communities grant to fund the Geary-Fillmore Underpass Community Planning Study
Worked with the SFMTA to lower speeds by 5 mph (from 25 mph to 20 mph) on Haight Street, Divisadero, the Fillmore, Hayes Valley and the Lower Haight.
Dean’s progressive tax – Prop. I – has brought in over $30m for public transit through “baselining”
