FILLMORE/WESTERN ADDITION
One of the last remaining Black neighborhoods of San Francisco, the Fillmore has a rich history once known as the “Harlem of the West” and a major destination for African Americans nationwide until redevelopment demolished much of the long-standing neighborhood and drove out thousands of Black residents and Black owned businesses. Dean partners with the resilient residents, businesses, and community groups to honor the legacy of the Fillmore, protect the community from further displacement, promote public safety, and invest in the neighborhood.
